Hello and welcome to my website and blog! I'm Marlena Tolon, an enthusiastic educator with a passion for creating engaging and transformative learning experiences for students. With a background in elementary education and management, I continually seek innovative ways to inspire and empower young minds.

I come from a background of severe childhood trauma. I had many people, several whom were educators, who became a definitive cornerstone in my life. After many years of support I was adopted when I was 12 and eventaully skipped 4th and 7th grade while working through school. A positive growth mindset and learning to forgive and move forward was a key to my success.

My journey in education began with a deep desire to make a positive impact on the lives of students like those who led me through my obstacles. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with diverse groups of learners, each with their own unique strengths and challenges. Many of the challenges my students face I often can relate and share empathy and understanding. Through these experiences, I've come to understand the immense power of fostering meaningful connections in the classroom.

My blog is a platform where I share my insights, strategies, and reflections on topics such as classroom management, student engagement, and building strong teacher-student relationships. I firmly believe that a nurturing learning environment is the cornerstone of effective education. By cultivating a sense of belonging and trust, we can unlock the full potential of our students and create lifelong learners.

As an educator, I'm committed to lifelong learning myself. I'm constantly exploring new teaching methodologies, staying updated with the latest educational research, and seeking ways to adapt my approach to best meet the evolving needs of today's students. When I'm not in the classroom or writing for this blog, you might find me spending time with my family (husband and two boys), boating, hiking, gardening, and sometimes just catching up with a long conversation. These activities not only rejuvenate me but also provide me with fresh perspectives that I bring into my teaching practice.
